EBOOK AND PRINT SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

We welcome submissions from new, unpublished authors as well as from those previously published. We also welcome authors who do not have an agent. Please study our guidelines, especially those detailing how to format your manuscript. Much of our decision to publish a book is determined by the adherence to our guidelines, as well as the quality of the story itself.

We will not accept short stories (stories shorter than 20,000 words), or a collection of short stories presented as a single submission. We publish a short story collection (DIABOLIC TALES) each year and will announce a call for submissions’ when we are ready to publish a new edition.

We do not accept simultaneous submissions! Please state in the email to which you attach your submission that your manuscript has been sent EXCLUSIVELY to Diabolic Publications, and will not be sent to any other publisher for a period of at least Ninety days.

Currently our response time is Ninety days, except for overly long novels, we try to respond within 120 days. We will reply promptly to emails from authors who wish clarification of any portion of our guidelines.

Manuscript length: The minimum length is 20,000 words. We prefer 60,000 words or more for full length novels, but we are flexible in this regard.

Serialized Novels: If an author has completed a series of related works, and we accept the first book, all future books in the series must to go through the regular submission and acceptance route .

Ebook Formats: We are currently publishing eBooks for Amazon Kindle and Barnes and Nobles Nook. Diabolic Publications will continue to evolve as new technologies emerge in the area of the electronic book.

Book covers: Diabolic Publications will provide artistic cover art. The image created for a particular book will appear in the eBook file of the work. We do not accept cover art provided by the author unless agreed upon before acceptance of the book for publication and must be approved by the Publisher in writing.

CONTRACT TERMS, NOVELS:

An official contract is sent to the author via email for review upon our acceptance of the work.

Royalties are paid as follows for Print Novels:

1.) 12% of the sale price.

2.) 25 % of the sale price on a digital download and 18% received from a re-seller.

3.) We acquire all forms of publication rights for three years, with an automatic one-year renewal unless either party provides a written request after the three year term, but prior to each one year renewal date.

4.) We hold the right to sell any subsidiary rights at anytime during the length of the contract with a 50%/50% split between the author and publisher from the proceeds.

5.) Royalty payments that total more than $25.00 will be paid every three (3) months, in US dollars. Payment will be made approximately 4 to 6 weeks after the end of each (3) three month reporting period. The time is dependent on the amount of time the retailers take to distribute payment to us. Any payments not received from retailers by the cutoff date will be added to the following royalty pay schedule.

6.) Payment is made only via deposit of royalty payment in an author-supplied PayPal Account. It is the responsibility of the author to keep email, paypal and mailing addresses up to date with the publisher.

CONTRACT TERMS, SHORT STORIES: NO SIMULTANEOUS SUBMISSIONS, NO MULTIPLE SUBMISSIONS, NO REPRINTS!

1.) An official acceptance is sent to the author, via email for review upon our acceptance of the work.

2.) Digital Publication of Fiction Short Stories: US$.03/word, payable upon publication. Plus, one copy of the printed edition in which the work appears when edition is published as a paper copy.

3.) Short Story Reprints: US$.01/word, payable upon publication. Plus, one copy of the printed edition in which the work appears when edition is published as a paper copy.

4.) RIGHTS: Exclusive First World English Rights for print and First Electronic Rights for two years from date of print publication. Rights are then no longer exclusive and revert back to the author after the two year period.

HOW TO FORMAT AND SEND SUBMISSIONS:

Query before submitting any material. Manuscripts must be submitted electronically, in doc., docx or.rtf format created in MS WORD (Word 98 or above), and be sent as an attachment to an email to:

Do not send your manuscript contained within the body of an email.

We do not accept manuscripts in HTML, Mac, WordPerfect, or MS Works files. The submission must be a single .doc, .docx or .rtf file separated into two parts by a Next Page break. For details, see our Formatting Guidelines.

The email must contain “Submission of [title of book] by [your real name]” in the subject line. Include a short, one-paragraph note in the body of the email, to introduce yourself, if you are submitting to us for the first time.

Submissions must contain the following items in the order given.

SYNOPSIS:

1. Short Synopsis a concise description of the book, no more than 200 words.
2. Long Synopsis: a more in-depth description of the book. No more that 400 to 500 words.
3. Author Biography: a biography about you, the author, using your pen name if you use one. The biography should be two or three paragraphs totaling approximately 250 words. Since the public will see this biography, write it with that in mind. Write it in the third person.
4. Photograph: a digital photograph.
5. Book Series: state whether or not your submission forms part of a series. If it does, state whether or not the other books in the series are finished and ready for submission. State the name of the series and the number of books in the series.
6. Genre: state what genre and sub-genre your book falls into.
7. Your publishing history: state if your submission has been previously published. If it has, you will need to provide proof that you own or that all rights have reverted back exclusively to you.
8. Editing: If your manuscript has been edited by a professional editor, if so you must provide the name and contact information of the editor and a copy of any contract you have with that editor. Diabolic Publications retains the right to edit any submission accepted for publication for basic grammar, spelling, punctuation and sentence structure.
